What we do

Crawl space encapsulation, done properly

We lead with full encapsulation and vapor barriers, and go from there, moisture control, mold removal, insulation, drainage, and repair. Pick what fits your home in Halifax or anywhere across the HRM.

Why us

Your local crawl space crew

Crawl spaces are all we do. Here's what sets our encapsulation work apart when it's the air, the floors, and the structure of your home on the line.

Local crew, not a franchise

We live and work here. When you call, you get people who know Halifax homes, Maritime damp, and the crawl spaces under them.

We fix the cause, not the symptom

A musty main floor or cold feet in winter usually starts in the crawl space. We seal the source instead of treating what shows up upstairs.

Crawl spaces are all we do

We're not a general contractor squeezing in crawl space work between jobs. This is the work, so we do it right.

Clean, dry, and done properly

Heavy-duty liner, sealed seams, proper drainage, and a dehumidifier. No half measures, no spray-and-pray.

How it works

How we encapsulate a crawl space

From the free assessment to the finished, sealed space, here's how the job goes, simple and clear, start to finish.

  1. 1

    Free crawl space assessment

We come out, get under the house, and check the moisture, the framing, and the insulation. Send a photo first if you can. Then we tell you straight what's going on.

  2. 2

    Clear out and treat

Old debris, wet insulation, and any rodent mess come out. We treat any mold or rot on the joists so we're starting with a clean, sound space.

  3. 3

    Seal, drain, and dehumidify

Heavy vapor barrier over the floor and walls, vents sealed, drainage and a sump where water gets in, and a dehumidifier to hold the humidity down.

  4. 4

    Insulate and finish

We insulate the walls and rim joists so your floors warm up, then walk you through the finished, dry crawl space. No half measures.

Crawl space questions, answered

What is crawl space encapsulation?

It's sealing your crawl space off from the ground and outside air with a heavy vapor barrier over the floor and walls, plus drainage and a dehumidifier where they're needed. The crawl space becomes a dry, controlled part of your home instead of a damp dirt cellar feeding moisture upstairs.

How do I know if my crawl space needs encapsulating?

The common signs are a musty smell on the main floor, cold floors in winter, high humidity, condensation or standing water under the house, or mold on the floor joists. If you've got any of those, the crawl space is almost always the cause, and sealing it is the fix.

Is encapsulation really worth it in Nova Scotia?

Yes, maybe more here than most places. Our wet springs, coastal humidity, and cold winters are exactly the conditions that keep crawl spaces damp and grow mold. A sealed crawl space stays dry through a Maritime winter, protects your floor structure, and stops the cold air that makes your ground floor feel drafty.

Will encapsulation help with the musty smell in my house?

Usually, yes. That musty smell is damp crawl space air rising into the living space, what's called the stack effect. Seal the crawl space and add a dehumidifier and the source of the smell is gone, instead of being masked.

What's the difference between a vapor barrier and full encapsulation?

A vapor barrier is the liner that blocks ground moisture, it's one part of the job. Full encapsulation seals the floor and walls, addresses drainage, insulates, and adds humidity control. The barrier alone helps, but encapsulation is what makes the space genuinely dry and stable.

Can you get rid of the mold on my floor joists?

Yes. We treat and remove the mold or white rot on the joists and subfloor, then seal the crawl space so the moisture that caused it is gone. Treating mold without fixing the damp just means it comes back, so we always do both.

My floors feel cold and bouncy. Is that the crawl space?

Often it is. Cold floors point to an uninsulated, drafty crawl space, and bounce or sag points to joists or supports weakened by long-term moisture. We insulate, and where the structure's been affected, we add proper support posts and jacks.
